Policy & Legislative Director

My Story

Born in Sonoma County, Esmeralda has called San José her second home for some time now.

While attending to SJSU for her B.A. in Political Science, Esmeralda became motivated and determined to create change from within government institutions and after a strong internship with Councilmember Carrasco’s office she knew that she wanted to stay involved with local politics. A fun fact about her internship with Councilmember Carrasco’s office is that Councilmember Omar Torres was the one who hired her originally for the internship! Working her way up, Esmeralda eventually became the legislative director for Councilmember Carrasco’s office in District Five which represented the greater East San José region.

Now working for Councilmember Omar Torres, Esmeralda still holds her position as Legislative Director and is motivated to reduce blight, establish a new downtown vibrancy, and to create a downtown where everyone can visit feeling like there is something for them to do and do it safely.

In her free time, Esmeralda loves to enjoy the outdoors with her dog Jax to which she frequents hiking activities and long walks.
